The main purpose of preventive maintenance (PM) activities are to avoid or mitigate the consequences of failure of equipment, keep equipment working at normal and planned circumstances achieving required operations, and extend the life time of the equipment.
Preventive maintenance in electrical field is a schedule of regularly planned maintenance testing and actions with the intent of preventing breakdowns and failures. Electrical preventive maintenance is cost-effective because it maximizes life time of equipment; it improves reliability of the system, decreases the frequency of replacing equipment, and decreases system downtime.
There are many indoor electrical equipment inside cleanrooms and outdoor electrical equipment in each cell site. Their preventive maintenance is very important after a regular period of time. It is essential to perform oil analysis, hot Vac services, equipment maintenance agreement, power system load flow analysis, and equipment testing.
The main responsibilities of preventive maintenance electrical engineer are as follow
Checking status of both power sources of a site and making sure that their auto changeover is working fine.
Checking and making sure that all electric sockets, room lighting, and security lighting are fine.
Confirming that AC MCB ratings are standard.
Recording some information such as number of rectifier module, current rating of each rectifier module, DC load current, number of battery banks, capacity of each battery bank, and etc.
Making sure that the capacity of rectifier is higher than DC load and battery charging current, and each rectifier module is working fine.
Making sure EGB and IGB are properly grounded.
Checking grounding resistance of all indoor and outdoor equipments and reducing abnormal grounding resistance to an acceptable normal resistance.
Checking main grounding of tower and reducing its resistance to a normal value if it has abnormal resistance.
Checking room temperature.
Recording AC related data such as number of ACs, capacity of ACs, rating and running currents of ACs.
Cleaning of AC filter and making sure that ODUs of ACs are functioning fine and are noiseless.
